Oil on Paper: Part 2

Into the sea

I am not good at painting human faces. So for a long time, I painted nature, abstract etc. But humans are the most expressive creature on this earth. They speak not only with the words, but through their eyes, hands, postures, and even what they put on. If I can not paint a face, I’ll paint everything else which is a associated with a human.

I wanted to make this one gloomier than it turned out. A lady gazing into the sea and the the sunset on a beach. There is something peaceful about this painting.  May be it is the sea green color of the water, or maybe it is her stare into the nothingness. Who cares when the creation is this beautiful 🙂

Medium: Oil colors

Acrylic on Canvas: Part 7

Have you ever been to a city with so many fall colors. Most of you of course have been. Well I live in Texas where you will not find much of fall colors. That disappoints one who loves and worships colors. It took me almost 2 years to see them after arriving on US soil. And man, they are beautiful. They can make the dullest landscape so full of life.

I tried to put that picture on two 8″x10″ canvas with only acrylic colors. No medium used. Left canvas is just black and white. When I started painting 4 years back, I was so afraid of using black it being so pigmented. Now even without using any medium, the fine details came out just imperfectly perfect. Right one is as colorful as it can, yellow, orange, red, shades of blue and what not. I love each of them separately as well as put together. What about you?

Acrylic on Canvas: Part 5

Theme: Contrast

Poppies: On this stretched canvas on wood of size 12”*12” I intended to put only black and white to create a contrast. Contrast of dull and bright, of glee and woe and of light and dark. Background came out as dramatic and dull as I expected with use of a little glazing medium. A flower like poppy totally balanced the dreariness of the background but then I drew those dark buds. It seemed that only black and white are not enough to create the consonance. One of them always tend to overpower the other. The canvas needed a decisive factor. And red was perfect. With time I have learnt that the more you let go of control on the brush the more beauty gets added to the piece. Poppy’s petals are imperfect, stems are imperfect and even the pistil in the centre of flowers are imperfect. But together it turned out a perfect the-bedroom-wall piece.

Acrylic on Canvas: Part 4

Theme: Christmas

Christmas lights on canvas: Stretched canvas on wood of size 12”*12”

This is the first time I was using stretched canvas and I wanted something beautiful to paint on it. So here comes the third layer of painting over this sheet. The textures are from previous painting which luckily is providing the rocky look of wall on which the decorative lights has been hung. The bokeh effect on the left side has been created with glazing medium. Some lights seems to be far and fainter while some nearer and brighter. Christmas decorations are hung with pearl strings with snowflakes and lights in it. The blue and mauve color used in the background creates a mysterious night aura.

Golden Snowflakes: Canvas of size 12”*12”

Well silver snowflakes are too mainstream. So here comes my golden snowflakes. On a white canvas, I used fabric glue which gets transparent after drying. The one on left-bottom is the regular snowflakes (inspired from frozen 🙂 ) The half snowflakes is the really decorative. The use of a bit of mauve color has made this snowflakes an antique. The other snowflakes is getting distorted and an imperfect one. Well what is perfect in this imperfect world. 😉 Out of the three the antique one is my favourite.

Pinky spirals: Canvas of size 6”*8”
Glue is becoming an obsession for me. Here I have used Pink and white fabric colors to make these spirals. I didn’t plan on this. It just came on canvas. Some whites, some pinks, some pinkish whites and some whitish pink. And I just love the pink sprinkles originating from top-right corner.

And this is the full view of my painting table. Cheers!!
